Art
Welcome to Art and Design where we aim to instil in children a desire to appreciate, explore, understand and create with growing skill!
Children start at an early stage with exploring elements of Art and Design in early years, with some free play as well as adult led opportunities. They can be seen drawing, painting and making in the outdoor area as well as in the classroom.
Children progress through the infants by growing their skills in drawing (abstract and observational), painting (mixing primary colours and secondary colours), printing (simple repeat patterns), collage (combining materials), textiles (basic weaving) and 3D work (simple sculptures).
As they move through KS2, they hone these skills again with more precision and focus on developing these skills in drawing (shading and perspective), painting (mixing shades and tones ), printing (rotational and overlayed), collage (materials for effect), textiles (combining weaving and knotting, tie dye) and 3D (coil pots and Modroc masks).
Children identify artwork and styles, they can respond with growing vocabulary about their likes and dislikes and styles of art, including abstract and realistic preferences.
Every learner from KS1-KS2 has their own sketchbook and develops their journeys through these, becoming critical thinkers, able to use growing skill to see where they might adapt their ideas. They become influenced by artist or designers whose style speaks to them and helps develop their work confidently towards a finished piece. We often display these around the school and at our annual Summer Art Exhibition.
